The 2020 RFS Challenge focus on using the latest digital technologies to create a light-weight delivery drone solutions

Challenges

Light Weight Quadcopter

The challenge proposed by our drone partner, is for the team to create an application for delivery service companies using a 3D printed light-weight quadcopter with the ability to quickly and safely retrieve the parcel. The solution should help to either increase the parcel weight capacity and/or increase the flight time of the drone.

Programme Highlight

1. Participants will have to form a Team of 4 consisting:

Project Manager

Determine requirements, translate into actionable plan, prepare project reports and pitch presentation

3D Designer

Understand project requirements and develop CAD designs for simulation and optimization

Mechanical Simulation Engineer

Perform finite element analysis and optimization to ensure requirements are met and conforms to safety and industry standards

Drone Engineer

Fabricate prototype, run test, fine tune and pilot the drone

2. The 3DEXPERIENCE Platform onboarding will be provided before the workshop.

3. A Workshop will be carried out to prepare the participants with the necessary skills for the drone development. A Starter Drone Kit will be provided to each team of the participant.

4. The teams will have two months time to design the drone on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. During this period, periodic progress meeting with industry mentors will be carried out.

5. The participant will submit their design thru the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the Top-10 Finalist teams will be annouced.

6. The Finalists will have another 4 months to further iterate the designs and fabricate the prototype drones.

7. During the final challenge day, the finalists will have 15mins to present and pitch their drone design and its application. They will also put their drone to the test to see who can carry the most payload in a single battery charge.

  • 4 persons per team:

    Project Manager

    Have basic knowledge in project planning and management

    3D Designer

    Have basic knowledge in 3D parametric CAD modeling

    Mechanical Simulation Engineer

    Have basic knowledge in Finite Element Analysis for structural analysis

    Drone Engineer

    Have basic knowledge in the function of drone components and control system

  • Each team should have an advisor who is a lecturer from the same institute
